TWO updates

Jen,

With everything going on this week with the integrated story and things, I have not had a lot of time to keep up with this! Two weeks ago, I worked on the website and basically updated and edited stories for the site. Not too eventful. Last Thursday, I worked on the website and posted stories/ad analyses to the site and categorized them. I sent the page addresses to you. (Did they work out?) Also, I spent some of the time working on finishing up my integrated story.

I have not yet put my website up on the site, but I do officially have a site: tedarthur.net. I've been talking with Jonathan and we're working on connecting the iWeb stuff with the online world. Usually, you have to buy an iMac account, but I did not do that. My resume is basically updated. I'm waiting to put up the information for Beijing and filling out the experience section as well!

Dot Com

Hey Jen,

This past week I worked on Smart Decision.  I ended up categorizing the blogs and stories.  I worked from the top down.  Most of the stories were not categorized at the top.  It looked like someone had started categorizing those later down the list (about two days old), but then stopped.  I decided I should just go through some pages and make sure they were all categorized.  I also helped with the website this week and edited some stories.  I think I'm finally getting a better handle on things (ACM, Smart Decision, categorizing)!

Back Logged

Hey Jen, I'm writing for two shifts.  I've been so back logged that I haven't be able to do this.  Anyway, during the smart decision shift last week I spent most of my time working on adding categories to the stories.  We started on page 50 and worked our way to the front.  I think myself and Vici got to page 43 last week.
This week, I worked on the web and worked on a story where there were several web extras.  I ended up making 6 web extra links for the story including making the story itself!  I had to leave, but the convergence person took over and wrote in all the information.  he didn't really know what to do with the ACM stuff, but I think I was able to help him out.
My website is finally coming along!  Jonathan bought the space and name for me and I am currently working on putting the website to the site.  I still think I may have a problem with the sound, but I need to re-post the site to see if it's still a problem...I don't think it is.  Still working!
Have fun in Vegas!

Smart Decision

This week I spent time updating the smart decision website.  I did all of the usual items, and the began working on the huge project of transcribing the April ballot forms from the surrounding counties.  I was able to finish one county and then passed the job over to Vicki.  I also spent the time working on my website (with you) and found a way to get the video in the right format for iWeb, however we still need to solve the problem with sound.  All of the videos converted lacked sound.  On another note, I'm hoping to send you my cover letter soon.  It's a little different, but the approach I hope is unique and fits the mold and purpose of a cover letter.  I have my resume (hard copy) done.  The website is coming along as well.  I have all the video I want to use for the website except I need to change my slate to include my gmail account.  I think I'm pretty well underway as far as where we are in the semester...hopefully!

Web Work

This week I worked on the web. I had a lot of stories to look at but got done with some extra time. Things seemed to go pretty smoothly. I think I'm finally getting into a rhythm of the tasks that need to be done. However, especially with Smart Decision, I know that being a week off of it, I always need some refresher time to get used to everything. I'm getting comfortable posting stories online and making sure the categories are the right ones. I still haven't gotten down setting up a new Links and Numbers page. Mike showed me how to do it again this past week.

As far as my E-portfolio goes, I've been working on my Cover letter...trying to come up with something that will stand out. Also, trying to work on something for Flash, but I'm not sure the two (Flash and iWeb) will work together.

Helping KBIA

On Thursday, I was working for the Smart Decision page.  There wasn't too much to do.  I updated the Missourian links.  They were a little behind so I had a few to do.  In addition, I worked to update the KBIA Talk Politics show and re-downloaded the shows and put them on Youtube.  I then asked around the dot com area to see if there was anything I needed to.

I'm continuing to work on my portfolio...waiting to hear about the resume!

E-portfolio and web work

This week, I worked on the website and edited a lot of stories.  Didn't have too many issues with the editing.  I went and asked reporters if they would save an image and most of them did.  But I did have to ask them again and do it myself.  I didn't realize I had to make a freeze frame first.  I may have been doing it another way.  I also tackled the issue of finding capitalization corrections in stories like titles in names.

My portfolio is coming along!  I talked with Jonathan and he said it would be fine.  I've been playing around with iweb and have been very impressed with the ease of it.  Two issues: the movies embedded are supposed to be wma files?  I just changed the name of then end of the title to wma and they seem to play...but get frozen visually after a few seconds.  Not sure if that's a long term issue.  Also, I tried uploading my resume onto the site and I can't get it into a pdf format that will show up on the site (which is back).  So I ended up changing the background of the site and now you can read the resume.  In addition i'll make a link to it on the front page.

Updating Smart Decision

This week I was in charge of updating the Smart Decision website.  I first went through the front page and made sure all of the Missourian headlines were copying over.  Then, I checked the KBIA website to see if things were copying over as well.  There wasn't too much to do for the website.

We also had a vodcasting meeting this week where we discussed what our plans are for the daily podcast.  We are going to try and produce a show every day of the week (Monday-Friday).  We will produce the podcast by putting together the most important stories of the day into about a 7 minute show and then shoot it in the studio as an on-set or weather wall.  I'm hoping that we can do both jobs the same day and have a certain day that we're producing/anchoring it.  Hopefully, it will be useful to our audience.

Missouri Headlines...

Alright...this past shift I spent the day working the dot-com shift.  First, I started working on just reading the stories online to check for errors.  Then I went and saw if reporters had the large image for the website.  At the time, it was right about when the reporters were still importing so I had to wait.  The biggest part of my day was working on Missouri Headlines.  Mike taught me how to do them and I updated the headlines all afternoon.  By about 4:30, it started getting a little busier and we were working on getting all of the requirements on the board checked off.  Before I left, I wrote the 10 pm stories on the board and made the checklists for them.

Sunday, February 3, 2008

This week I worked on the Decision 2008 website.  We accomplished three things that will hopefully bring the site up and running.  I looked for stories in the recently updated section to make sure they were on the main page, updated stories to see the "full text" which included seeing pictures and finally posting video on the photo website (splash?).

I had some ideas for Super Tuesday including going to different places and seeing how people are watching the returns come in.  We could put together a package that could go online or on TV.  We could also blog the evening.  I could take a video camera (mini dv) or regular station camera....I know that Obama supporters are meeting at the Blue Note to watch returns.  Thinking of some other ideas....
